The big scuttlebutt in boxing this week was not the fight hype between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Victor Ortiz which is this month on September 17th rather the big meltdown between Floyd Mayweather Jr and his father Floyd Mayweather Sr on HBO 24 7. Towards the end of the show, apparently Floyd Jr and Floyd Sr had some disagreement regarding the female fighters on their stable. It seem to have started from a good nature ribbing, which led to a more severe ball breaking, and then blew up to a near fight where both father and son were yelling profanity at each other. Floyd Jr loudly ordered his father to get out of his gym then Floyd Sr yelled at his son "Put me out...motherf**ker!!" The heat between father and son got even hotter when Floyd Jr called his father a "fagg*t". It was the ugliest scene I can remember between father and son on national TV. For a moment I thought I was watching The Jerry Springer Show or Maury. But there are those who think and believe that this meltdown between father and son was staged. A ruse. An act. I don't believe that. I believe this was a legitimate fight between Floyd Jr and Floyd Sr, which has been brewing most likely since Floyd Sr was incarcerated for drug trafficking and made even worse when Roger Mayweather took over as the major trainer for his son, Floyd Jr. It was a bitter pill to swallow for Floyd Sr who believes he is the architect of his son successful reign in boxing. Contrary to Floyd Jr, who clearly told the world only two Mayweathers count, Roger Mayweather and himself. Which I find totally false. Floyd Jr has a history of selective memory. Floyd Sr laid the ground work on Floyd Jr's boxing skills. It was Floyd Sr who cultivated and trained Floyd Jr on the critical years to where he is now. If Floyd Sr decided that he didn't want his son to become fighter and follow his footsteps, I will guarantee Floyd Jr will not sitting in a $17 million mansion. Too bad there isn't a time machine to send Floyd Jr back in time, and let him see in his own eyes who laid the ground work to his exceptional boxing skills. If you look at the style Floyd Jr fights, you can see the similarity in style between Floyd Sr and Floyd Jr. Floyd Jr's style is a lot more similar to his father, than his Uncles Roger Mayweather and Jeff Mayweather.
My take on both Floyd Jr and Floyd Sr, both are highly narcissistic, egos the size of Cowboy Stadium. Both of them in the same room is like having gasoline and a lit match. Both are combustible. Floyd Jr saying he is the best fighter in the world, constantly reminding the world he is undefeated. Then you have Floyd Sr also constantly telling the world he is the best trainer in the world in poetry. The best trainer in the world? But he does not own a gym or a constant stream of fighters banging on his door. I am not even sure if known former steroid user Fernando Vargas is still being trained by Floyd Sr on his comeback. But still, Floyd Sr is a world class trainer, indisputable. Floyd Sr may not own a gym which Floyd Jr pointed out, but Floyd Jr must also remember neither does Roger Mayweather. As far as we know, Roger is an employee of Floyd Jr. In truth, their massive egos and narcissism is just too much for that gym, spacious it may be, it is not big enough. Could you imagine if Adolf Hitler and Napoleon Bonaparte in the same room? Honestly, Floyd Sr and Floyd Jr are so much alike. Which is no wonder they are constantly fighting and ready to wring each others neck. When Floyd Sr talks smack, I hear his son in him. And when Floyd Jr talks smack and so over the top disrespectful, I also hear Floyd Sr in him. They are so much alike, it is eerie.
The tumultuous history between Floyd Sr and Floyd Jr have never been settled in my opinion. When Floyd Sr was still at odds and estranged, he took shots at his son when given a chance. Especially the time when Floyd Jr contemplated joining the MMA. http://www.sportaphile.com/2008/01/03/floyd-mayweather-sr-thinks-his-son-will-be-killed-in-mma-also/ And when Floyd Sr was asked on HBO 24 7 whether his son needs to get knocked out. The response of a father you think would be "Heck no!! Why would I want my son knocked out? Are you crazy??" Instead "Not Bucking For Father Of The Year " Floyd Sr said this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNzJfKhSLZs&feature=related (go to :34). Those are some of the few tidbits why I believe the fight was not staged. This eruption between the two was bound to happen. It was just a matter of time. Apparently I heard through the grapevine, father and son have had quite few blow ups before, unrecorded. Even after their so called reconciliation. What can we expect when both enjoy trash talking? Eventually both will hear something they certainly will not like to hear. At some point, someone will hit below the belt. For instance when Floyd Jr giving a below the belt shot at Floyd Sr's stint in prison on national TV. Youch!!! Floyd Sr cultivated that mouth Floyd Jr has, so he is reaping what he sowed.
Watching that meltdown on 24 7, you could see the seriousness on all the faces. You can clearly see everybody was uneasy. Nobody was smiling and also one thing I did notice, there were children in the gym. One child was being escorted away from ground zero. This is also led me to believe this was the real deal rather than staged. If this was staged, I guarantee there will be no children around to witness the blow up and all the cursing that came with it. Also if this were stage, it is a sickening way to promote a fight. If HBO and Team Mayweather were involved in this staged blow up between father and son, it is a disgusting display of selling out the family values. Will they stoop this low? What next? Attempted murder? But I honestly believe it was not staged or pre planned. The issues between Floyd Jr and Floyd Sr have been brewing and festering like an infection for years. And in my opinion, it has never nor ever been resolved. And I think it is high time for the two to seek professional help. Anyone has Dr Phil's phone number?
